Who is Lorraine Waite?
I’m Lorraine Waite and I get it, I really do. You want to have fun with your horse, not fight them. Sometimes, we don’t know how to listen to what they are telling us, which is why I do what I do. I love being the “voice” for your horse.
I’ve been a horsewoman since before I could ride. As a young filly, I used to draw balloon ponies with stick legs all over my schoolwork. Mom asked me if I wanted a pony of my own, and I said “Uhuh!”, excited beyond Christmas! She said I needed to draw them ‘anatomically correct’ (Which doesn’t mean the same then as it does now), including bones, joints and angles being correct. I copied books, checked out How to Draw Horses books, studied racing photos. And I drew horses anatomically correct – they were always Arabians, even if they were pulling a sulky. My first horse turned out to be an Arabian gelding who taught me volumes-worth of unwritten knowledge, about horse communication, care, training and fitness. We rode in 3-phase Eventing, hunt-seat, jumping shows, gallivanting over the countryside racing deer and being chased by dogs. We even rode to the foxhounds a few times.
After college, my Mom and I got our dream of owning property, and we raised Haflinger horses and drove competitively in Combined Driving Events, country-fair style rail classes, and various pleasure driving opportunities. I also was fortunate enough to get a job as carriage driving trainer’s assistant to Roger Cleverly, working with horses of all sizes and temperments. I decided I wanted to help horses feel and work better for their human partners, too. I decided Equine Sport Massage, and Equissage of Virginia, were the perfect fit.
With my fresh certificates in Equine Sport Massage Therapy and Canine Massage Therapy, I set out to make the world of horses better, one massage at a time. I love meeting new people and their animals, and amazing everyone with how much the animals appreciate and benefit from their massage sessions.
